BREAST AUGMENTATION AT RIVER MEDICAL

Did you know that that in Northern Ireland, we are more likely to do an internet search for breast implants or more commonly referred to as “boob job” than any other type of cosmetic surgery procedure?

Worldwide, it has been estimated that between five and 10 million women have opted for breast implants to increase the size and improve the overall shape and look of their breasts.

The internet is awash with information but just what should we look out for when considering breast augmentation surgery?

Ask the right questions

Before progressing with surgery, it is vital to ask yourself some important questions about the provider you choose. Is the Surgeon a Consultant Plastic Surgeon? Is he/she registered in Ireland and a full time resident? Will my surgery be carried out in a fully accredited Private General Hospital and will I stay over night? These are just a few examples. When it comes to your health, cutting corners is never best practice.

The Procedure

Breast Augmentation is one of the most tried-and-tested of cosmetic surgery procedures and is performed under a general anaesthetic. An agreed-sized breast implant is inserted through a small incision made in the natural crease of the breast.

The Recovery

Typically you will stay overnight in hospital after your procedure. You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You may have some dressings around your breasts and a surgical bra or elasticized bandage depending on your surgeon’s preference.

Initially, your breasts will feel firm and may be swollen and will be sitting high on your chest. As the swelling goes down, they will drop into a more natural position and shape.

Your Surgeon can tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take between 7-10 days off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently.

Former Miss Ireland Rebecca Maguire had breast augmentation at River Medical, she did a blog just two hours after surgery – take a look, click the following link! https://business.facebook.com/rivermedicalbelfast/videos/479383108885789/

The Implant

River Medical uses only the safest, most assured and rigorously tested, FDA-approved Natrelle breast Implants from Allergan, a leading manufacturer in the global plastic surgery community. There are a number of reasons why:

  • FDA approval which means they have passed the rigorous testing process of the Food & Drug Administration.

  • Interestingly, it can take up to 12 days to manufacture a NATRELLE™ implant from start to finish, during which time it will undergo almost 100 quality control tests

  • Lifetime Patient Warranty which means that you have the re-assurance of a lifetime implant replacement warranty in the unlikely event of implant rupture.

How long do they last?

Breast Implants last between 10 and 15 years. At River Medical we offer a Lifetime Care Guarantee, so if you have any concerns, at any time, you can return to the clinic for a check up with your Surgeon.

Will I be able to breast feed after the procedure?

This is an extremely common question and you can rest assured that the answer is yes, the ability to breast feed should not be affected after your procedure. The breast tissue and the duct connections to the nipples are not affected or touched during the implant procedure.

What about price?

Cost should not be a deciding factor with an elective surgery. Trust, experience and aftercare are absolutely key.
