Eyelid surgery removes excess fat and skin from around the eye area. The skin can be expertly tightened at the same time delivering an extremely subtle and much rejuvenated appearance. A key aspect of preparing for any surgery is that your Surgeon understands your desires and expectations. At your initial consultation, your Consultant will explain the procedure in great detail, discuss your expectations and what he/she can achieve for you, ensuring you have realistic expectations of the results.
Your Surgeon will also want to evaluate your current physical health and health history, ensuring you are a suitable candidate for surgery. Because this is an elective procedure, you and your Surgeon will naturally carefully discuss the benefits and risks involved, as is the case with any surgical procedure.-

An incision is made in the natural fold on the upper lid and along the lash line on the lower lid. Small amounts of skin are removed and in some cases some fat is removed to remove eye bags. The incisions are very small and are virtually invisible due to their positioning.
The blepharoplasty procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic and takes one to three hours. All River Medical surgical procedures involve an overnight hospital stay to allow us to closely monitor your recovery and ensure optimum safety. After all, a hospital environment is the safest and only adequate place to deal with any potential eventualities.-

Typically you will stay overnight in hospital after your procedure. You will need someone to take you home when you are discharged by the Surgeon as you will not be able to drive. You may have bruising and swelling around the area. Your Surgeon will tell you more about the typical recovery process and may make recommendations based on your individual case but by and large expect to take between five – ten days off work. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.-

Your Questions Answered

  • What can I expect to pay?+-

Cost should not be a deciding factor with an elective surgery. Trust, experience and aftercare are absolutely key and River Medical is widely recognised as the industry leader in Ireland. We are also proud to say that we adhere to the strictest of ethical guidelines and believe that only highly trained medical staff should advise on cosmetic procedures - be it surgical or non-surgical.

  • Who will I meet at my initial consultation?+-

You will meet with one of our Consultant Plastic Surgeons who will discuss everything with you including your expectations and desires, the procedure and the best type of procedure for you, the results as well as any possible eventualities.

  • What is the recovery time like?+-

You will need to take 5 to 10 days off after your surgery. If your job is physical you may require more time. Everyone recovers differently and the River Medical team will monitor you closely. You will have an element of discomfort after your surgery which typically lasts 7-10 days but this will be managed with the support of your Consultant Plastic Surgeon and River Medical Registered General Nurse. Generally you can return to all normal activities within 3-6 weeks. We encourage patients to get back to their normal life as soon as it feels comfortable for them. We feel that this really promotes and aids a speedy and successful recovery. Everyone recovers differently but you can rest assured that we will monitor you closely to ensure the swiftest, safest and most comfortable recovery.

  • Am I a suitable candidate?+-

Your Consultant will assess your suitability and will recommend the best treatment for you at your free consultation. He/she will also show your pictures of similar patients so that you can be confident about your expected results.

  • How should I prepare for my procedure?+-

Preparation will begin with an initial consultation with your Consultant Plastic Surgeon, followed by a meeting with one of our Registered General Nurses. Each one will go through every aspect of the surgery in great detail. Prior to surgery you will return for a further comprehensive pre-operative assessment with your River Medical Nurse. Your Consultant will be available to you right up until your surgery should you wish to see him/her again.

  • Where will my surgery be carried out?+-

Your surgery should ONLY be carried out in a Private General Hospital that is fully accredited. A hospital environment is the safest and only adequate place to deal with any potential eventualities.

  • What sort of aftercare will I receive?+-

At River Medical, you will receive FREE and unlimited aftercare post surgery.

  • Will there be scarring?+-

As the incisions are made in the natural folds of skin, scarring is minimal / virtually undetectable.

  • Why choose River Medical?+-

We are widely regarded as being the industry leader in cosmetic surgery. At River Medical, we never compromise on the level of care and attention we give each and every one of our patients, every time, and we are committed to you from procedure right through to your 24/7, lifelong aftercare.

  • Why do you not have before and after pictures on your website?+-

Before and after pictures on websites can be misleading as they may not be patients of the surgeon who will be carrying out your surgery. As every person has completely different expectations and different treatment requirements, it is a much more valuable tool for your Consultant to show pictures of not only surgeries that he/she has carried out but also show you results you will be likely to achieve.

Testimonials

I’m delighted with the results of my blepharoplasty. Mr. Chatzis must have a very good eye as well as a steady hand! I don’t know how he did such a good job within such a small space! Already, there is hardly any scarring to be seen. It’s incredible to me what can be done, I feel renewed, fresher and brighter, I’ve got the spring back in my step!
